Making Exercise Fun

Exercise is absolutely essential for a healthy lifestyle.
Physical activity keeps you strong and fit. It promotes
general health and flexibility, provides a natural relief
from stress, and it burns calories to maintain a healthy
weight. Many people consider exercise to be some sort of a
punishment, a regimen that has to be done whether you like
it or not. Granted that it requires sweating and hard work
but it can be fun if you go about it the right way. Take
aerobics, for instance. Many people enjoy it while others
dislike exercising in that manner. The key is to find
activities that you enjoy, but that you do not think of as
exercise.
The recommended daily dose of exercise is half an hour for
health improvement and one hour if you want to achieve
maximum benefits and stay fit.
Exercise is not merely jogging, aerobics, lifting weights or
swimming. You can get the health benefits of exercise by
simply making yourselfmore active than you currently are.
For instance, exercise could be in the form of doing yard
work or housework, or even walking the dog. Look at it this
way, if you tend your garden twice a week and clean the
house from top to bottom another two days of the week; that
is already totaling up to four days of exercise. Try to
think of common activities that can be a part of your day or
which you find enjoyable. They do not have to be traditional
exercises.
One of the most enjoyable ways to exercise is to get out and
play with friends or with your kids. Playing with your kids
teaches them to be active and develop good habits, and
activities with friends are enjoyable ways to work up a good
sweat. A run on the sandy beach is good exercise and you get
a tan in the bargain. Playing sports is not just fun: it is
exercise. Activities like going for bike rides or playing
catch can involve others and be great fun.
There is really no reason to fear exercise. Just look for
activities that get you moving. A dance class is as good as
a walk to the supermarket a couple of extra times when you
go shopping. The activities do not have to be even something
you consider exercise. As long as you are moving, and as
long as you are staying active, you will remain in good
shape and enjoy better health.
