Everyone Either Loves Or Hates Professional Wrestling

Professional wrestling is a very popular phenomenon with
children of all ages. However, in recent years parents are
finding that certain wrestling is becoming offensive and
disturbing. Many have even banned their children from
watching professional wrestling on television. Is all the
fuss justified, or is professional wrestling really just a
soap opera for boys?

There will practically be no one who entertains the idea
that the wrestling that we see on national television is
real. The mere word Professional wrestling annotates that it
is fake. We feel that these wrestlers are very good actors
and what they do is not too difficult. However, the fact is
that there always is a great possibility of someone getting
hurt in the sport of professional wrestling.

The parents are not questioning the authenticity of
professional wrestling, what they are bothered about is what
does it teach our children. The fact is that wrestling is
extremely violent and has recently turned towards the worst
uncharted territories. Many parents are objecting to the
sometimes verbal, and even physical, abuse towards the women
of the wrestling world. New acts such as cage and one on
three have had parents worried to no end.

Most male wrestlers have often had their female counterpart,
a scantily clad girl with certain fake body parts, huge
hair, and way too much makeup. Where many think the turning
point is came several years ago, when a pimp character was
introduced and his entourage was prostitutes. The girls
would often be made to do demeaning acts and many parents
were shocked.

Whether or not children really realize what they are
watching, many people thought that any show that caters to
young viewers should take some responsibility of what they
are showing the kids and teaching them. Wrestling was soon
shut off in many homes because of this. Many parents were
wondering why the change from just violent wrestlers with
catchy names and ridiculous outfits, to this? Many people
felt that their children shouldn't be subjected to seeing
this sort of behavior.

One more major issue that came up for discussion was that
wrestling was being cast on television in the early
afternoon - when many children were home alone without
parent guidance or supervision. It was opined that
television networks need to be responsible and have such
controversial shows only when parents could either supervise
what their children were viewing, just shut it off or watch
it with their kids so they could explain certain
objectionable aspect of the show without biasing the thought
process of their children.

Despite the controversies, wrestling continued to gain
popularity and all events in the US and Canada would have
stadium filled to capacity. Major matches were also shown
on big screens in large movie theatres. In the recent past,
wrestling mania has slowed a bit but it continues to be very
popular with kids.

Despite the choice of parents, children would continue to
love professional wrestling and would continue imitating
their favorite wrestler with suitable merchandise. The issue
at hand is that parents need to explain it to their children
that none of this is real.
