Having Lasik Done is Like Getting a New Pair of Eyes

Over a year ago my wife and I saw an ad in the
Sunday paper advertising lasik surgery for $299 per
eye. We had been considering it for a while so we made
an appointment to see if she was a candidate for the
surgery.
Unfortunately, my wife had a severe astigmatism which
increased the cost of the surgery from $299 per eye
to $799 per eye. Business was good and I was committed
so we made the decision to go ahead. The doctor would
be using the Visix laser due to the astimatism. The
visix laser was more accurate and therefore more expensive.
We scheduled the surgery for 2 weeks from the date of
our initial appointment.
Before I knew it, the day came for the surgery. We were
both nervous and became more nervous as the nurse had us
sign all of the disclosure papers that tell everything bad
that could happen.
The doctor helped us to feel better as he explained exactly
what would be done. He had performed more than 30,000 of
these procedures without any complications. This really made
us feel good. The doctor explained that the visix computer
would take a 3D picture of each eye and then determine
precisely what needed to be done to each lens to make the
vision in each eye perfect.
Once the computer had made a 3D drawing of each eye, the
doctor would make a small flap in the cornea of each eye
and then lay that flap back so the laser could do its job.
Using the laser beam, the computer reshaped each lens
perfectly in less than a minute. The flap was laid back on
each eye and the surgery was over. Total surgery including
recovery took less than an hour.
The doctor came out and told me that everything was great
and within a few minutes she could already see better. But
she had to keep her eyes closed for 3-4 hours so the flap
could start to heal. An appointment was scheduled the next
day to check how everything was healing and to test her
vision.
The next day we visited the doctor to check on how the
surgery went and my wife was now seeing 20-20. It was
unbelievable and very rewarding.
In order for the healing process to be complete, she had to
wear protection over her eyes for 3-4 weeks to keep from
rubbing them at night and loosening up the flaps before
they healed.
Not being able to rub her eyes after the surgery was
probably the hardest part fo the process, but my wife said
it was worth it, because after more than 12 months, she is
still seeing 20-20.
I recommend that you buy the 1 year guarantee if you decide
to go through with the surgery because you will get a free
touch up if you aren't seeing as good as you would have
hoped. The insurance only costs $200.
My wife says that Lasik is great. She has really enjoyed
not having to wear glasses or contact lenses.
